WHAT WE DO

Literacy Through Hip Hop is an innovative program that uses hip hop music as a medium to improve the literacy of children in low-income areas of Toronto. We are a non-profit organization that relies on the support of sponsors, other organizations and individuals that see the good in what LTHH does. The children that participate in the Literacy Through Hip Hop program all participate completely free of charge. The materials needed for each program are also provided to the children at no cost. Literacy Through Hip Hop hires all instructors, prints materials including the Wordplay textbooks and the LTHH curriculum as well as providing all additional materials as a service to the children in the communities in which we work. By donating to Literacy Through Hip-Hop you are donating to a program that provides much needed supplementary education to children that have been struggling with below average reading and writing skills. You will be helping children improve the quality of their lives by improving their ability to read, write and communicate well with others. You will be providing reading and writing materials, paying for experienced instructors and ensuring that they can have a positive outcome to their LTHH experience. Literacy is a tool to improve a young persons life by boosting their self-esteem and giving them important tools they will need to be successful throughout their lives.

VOLUNTEER

As a Literacy Through Hip-Hop volunteer you will be working alongside an experienced instructor to implement the in-class program. You will gain valuable experience in the classroom with children who will see a real benefit from your presence. Volunteers assist the instructor at their site by helping the children with their work, providing individual attention to the children and making sure that the classroom is well run and well supervised.

We also have volunteer opportunities in our office.  This is a great opportunity for high school students to gain administrative experience while acquiring volunteer hours towards their diplomas.

To apply to volunteer for Literacy Through Hip-Hop please contact info@lthh.org with a resume or a paragraph about the reasons why you wish to volunteer with LTHH.
